Honey Heals Your Wounds

Honey is more effective in treating difficult-to-heal wounds than antibiotics, says Jennifer Eddy, a professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Even methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, the so-called flesh eating bacterium is no match for the antibiotic compounds the bees manufacture for us - for free.

Meanwhile, antibiotics are losing much of their appeal as many common bacteria develop resistance. Chickens are fed grains mixed with antibiotics, calves and pigs are routinely injected as a “precaution”. Pharmaceutical companies are pushing antibiotics as the solution to all health problems in animal husbandry. We eat the residues of these antibiotics in many of our foods, and of course bacteria, being exposed to the drugs at every turn, find ways to resist their deadly properties.

That resistance is getting more and more problematic as hospitals become a breeding ground for infections.

Not only wounds are healed by honey, apparently there are also anti-viral properties in honey. Here is an anecdote from the time of the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic:

“During the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic, my dad was a little boy, 8 years old, in Stockton, California. His dad was a beekeeper, and kept some filled honeycombs in a closet in the house.

During the epidemic, the family members would go into that closet and eat some of the fresh honey every day, whenever they wanted.

The flu decimated the population of Stockton, including the families of their neighbors. Next door, only one little boy survived, and when he came out of the house, they couldn’t recognize him, he was so emaciated. Other whole families were entirely wiped out. They piled corpses in the streets, as there weren’t enough healthy men to bury them.

Dad’s (large) family escaped the flu intact. It skipped their house completely. Dad always said he thought it was something in the honey they ate that protected them.

He may have been right. I recently read that they’ve discovered that honey has a compound that turns into something like hydrogen peroxide inside you. For whatever it’s worth, this gives some protection from viruses.”

Honey could also save limbs that might otherwise need to be amputated, as our standard medical treatments fail.

Mindfulness Now

Virgo CollageYou may feel impetuous today and be tempted to make impulsive financial decisions. Perhaps you feel impatient about challenges you are facing, and you want to push through them more quickly. You might also simply feel a need to splurge on something to help you feel better. You might find it helpful to practice the art of mindfulness today, because it can remove feelings of frustration and impatience. If you keep your attention rooted firmly in each moment and make an effort to engage more deeply with each experience, you will feel a greater sense of enjoyment from the here and now rather than feel the need to rush ahead to the next moment of pleasure.

Practicing the art of mindfulness gives us a stronger perception of abundance and joy in every moment. While it’s natural to look eagerly to the future when anticipating more pleasurable circumstances, we can miss out on the joy the present moment has to offer us. If we instead learn to engage more deeply with each moment as it arrives, we find ourselves feeling happier and more abundant, even if everything in our lives is not as we wish it to be. Mindfulness allows us to open to the smaller pleasures that exist around us each day, while knowing that still more enjoyable experiences await us in future moments. A focus on mindfulness can ease your impatience and enrich your every experience today.

“Dream of your brother’s kindnesses instead of dwelling in your dreams on his mistakes. Select his thoughtfulness to dream about instead of counting up the hurts he gave.” -A Course in Miracles

Whatever we turn our attention to increases. So focusing on the good increases the good. Our “reality” is just a perception of things as they are – so choose to look at what we want more of. There is always more than one way of seeing, or thinking about someone or someone’s behavior. -Lissa Coffey

“To forgive is the highest, most beautiful form of love. In return, you will receive untold peace and happiness.” -Robert Muller

Think of this from a purely economical point of view. When you invest in blame, judgement, criticism and victimization, what do you receive in return? Does an attempt at making someone else feel bad bring any real benefit to you personally? Or could it actually cause you harm? Now, knowing that we are each responsible for our own choices and responses, think about this: When you invest in forgiveness, acceptance, understanding and harmony, what do you receive in return? Here there are many rewards! Among them: peace of mind, coherence, stability and love. -Lissa Coffey

………

Forgive all who have offended you, not for them, but for yourself.” -Harriet Uts Nelson

When we hold on to our grudges, when we refuse to forgive, the only one we are really hurting is ourself. Why cause ourselves unnecessary pain? Where is the spiritual lesson in that? We can choose to release these grievances and choose to create a miracle. Forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves. -Lissa Coffey

………

The forgiving state of mind is a magnetic power for attracting good.” -Catherine Ponder

Forgiveness tends to be one of those things that is easy to say, but hard to do. We get caught up in the hurt and pain and for some reason we don’t want to let that go. But forgiveness is freeing – it is healing, and it brings with it all kinds of life lessons and spiritual growth. And that is always good. -Lissa Coffey

Living Potential

Sun through treeSharing Your Gift With Others

The gifts we are born with and those that we work to develop throughout our lives vary in form and function. Some we find use for every day while others are only useful in specific circumstances. Yet many times we overlook opportunities to share our unique gifts with others. It may be fear of criticism that holds us back or the paralyzing weight of uncertainty. Ultimately, we doubt that our innate talents and practiced skills can truly add value to others’ lives. But it is the world as a whole that benefits when we willingly share our gifts. Whether you have been blessed with the ability to awaken beautiful emotions in others through art or industry, or your aptitudes transmit more practical advantages, your gifts are a part of who you are. As you make use of those gifts as best you can, be assured that your contribution to worldly well-being will not be overlooked.

Your personal power is defined in part by your gifts. To use your talents is to demonstrate to the world that you understand yourself and are truly attuned to your capabilities. Your earthly existence provides you with ample opportunity to explore your purpose, to utilize your skills in a life-affirming way, and to positively touch the lives of others while doing so. Yet you may feel that your gifts are not as valuable or worthy of attention as those of others and thus hide them away. However, every gift lying dormant in your soul has the potential to fill a void in someone else’s life. Just as your existence is made richer by the love, support, friendship, aid, and compassion of others, so, too, can you add richness to their lives. Your natural ability to soothe hurt, inspire compassion, bake, dance, knit, organize, or think outside the box can be a boon to someone in need.

As you embrace your gifts and allow their light to shine, you will discover that more and more opportunities to make use of them arise. This is because your gifts are a channel through which the universe operates. By simply doing what you are good at and also love to do, you make a positive difference. The recognition you receive for your efforts will pale in comparison to the satisfaction you feel when fulfilling your innate potential.

BambooDaily Wisdom from CoffeyTalk.com

“Life is what happens to you While you’re busy Making other plans.” -John Lennon (1940-1980)

We go about our lives trying really hard to keep everything in order, all the plates spinning: jobs, family, friends, community responsibilities, etc. But every once in awhile something happens that is beyond our reach, out of our control. Maybe someone we love gets sick, or we have a bad financial setback. Now our attention is elsewhere, and it seems that everything else gets out of balance, too. The truth is that we can’t control everything, and that we probably wouldn’t be any good at it if we could! But we can control our responses to these unexpected situations. We can use our problems as opportunities to learn and to grow. These are the times when we find that reserve of strength that was there all along. We discover more of who we really are, and what we’re really capable of. -Lissa Coffey
