The Psal of Life

Bamboo Daily Wisdom from CoffeyTalk.com

“Not enjoyment, and not sorrow, Is our destined end or way; But to act, that each tomorrow Find us farther than today.” -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)

This is from my favorite poem, “The Psalm of Life” which starts “Lives of great men remind us, we can make our lives sublime, and departing leave behind us, footprints in the sands of time.” It’s about following the examples laid before us, and at the same time, making our own way – becoming a new example, a new light to guide others. Longfellow understood that we need to keep going, to keep pursuing our spiritual growth, because that is our ultimate purpose. - Lissa Coffey

The End Result

TUTs Adventurers ClubNotes from the Universe - TUT.com

You live in Hollywood. You dream of acting; of thrilling audiences; of having the best roles. John-Derek, I’m here to tell you that you can have what you want, if you make thrilling audiences your end result, not your roles.

You live in Timbuktu. You dream of living in opulence and splendor; of being financially free to pursue all that stirs your heart; of buying low, selling high, writing best sellers, and sitting with Oprah. You can have this too, if you make financial freedom and a happy heart your end result, not your trading, writing, or schmoozing.

You live in Fredericton. You dream of rocking the world; that you will communicate clearly with the Divine; that you will be in all the right places at all the right times. Yes! I can see it now, if you make communicate clearly with the Divine your end result, and don’t mess with the cursed “hows.”

It’s easy, John-Derek, simply understand that your dream, the end result, is far bigger and more important than any of the steps you think you have to take. From a physical perspective, you simply can’t know all that’s involved. Your idea of the right steps may not be the best way for your dream to come true. They may even work against you.

With your end result clear, take every step that emotionally calls to you, but do not make any of them how your dream will come true. Trust the Universe to do its part, to pick the players and orchestrate the “hows,” yet give it a pallet to choose from by passionately doing the things that feel right. Not attaching your hopes and expectations to these steps, only to the end, the dream, thy kingdom come.

Prosperous, Fortunate Abundance

Virgo CollageDailyOM Horoscope

In evaluating your life today, you may be feeling abundant. You may be thriving in your business affairs, which could have you feeling prosperous. Or perhaps you have plenty of resources and time to share with your loved ones, which could have you feeling fortunate. Since we are beings of mind, body, and spirit, we may only feel truly abundant when we satisfy each level of being. Our physical body needs the basics of food and shelter, our mind requires stimulation and freedom from worry, and our spirits need love and inspiration. Though you may begin your day today by noticing your good fortune in one area, you may recognize how much you have to be grateful for in all areas of your life.

Feelings of abundance truly have little to do with your bank account, the size of your home, or the model of your car. But as human beings who are always reaching for our goals, we sometimes lose sight of how much we already have. We can become disappointed that we haven’t yet acquired the next thing we think will make us feel prosperous. But if you are reading this today, chances are good that you have more than enough to meet your physical needs. Even if you feel you are lacking in other areas, you likely still have more than someone else. By being grateful for what you have and recognizing your good fortune, you attract more into your life. Enjoy your feelings of prosperity today, and know that more good is coming your way.

The Scriptures are very sacred. Our aim must be to have them understood spiritually, for only by this understanding can truth be gained.

Lifting Pain’s Veil

It is natural to feel resentment or anger when life does not unfold as expected. We consciously or unconsciously anticipated one experience, and we grieve for the loss of it when the universe puts something else in our path. Most of the time, we work through these feelings and they pass. Occasionally, our anger and resentment do not fade and are instead transformed into bitterness. Bitter feelings allow us to become perfect victims in that we no longer feel obliged to work toward healing and choose instead to identify with our pain. Yet as unwholesome as bitterness can be, it is also a natural element of our emotional palette. When we acknowledge that it is okay to feel bitter, we reconnect with our hurt in a constructive way and can begin the process of working through it.

The nature of bitterness is rooted in the fact that the pain we feel provides us with a rationale. We may feel that we deserve to embrace our bitterness to its full extent. And to be bitter is, in essence, to cut ourselves off from all that is positive, hardening our hearts and vowing never to let go of our hurt. But just as bitter feelings can be self-defeating, so too can the release of bitterness be life-affirming in a way that few other emotional experiences are. When we decide that we no longer want to be bitter, we are reborn into a world filled with delight and fulfillment unlike any we knew while in the clutches of bitterness. The veil it cast over our lives is lifted, letting light and warmth touch our souls.

Divesting yourself of bitter feelings can be as simple as truly forgiving and moving on. Even when your bitterness has no concrete object, you can forgive situations too. Healing pain can be challenging but may be easier if you remind yourself that you are the only entity truly affected by your emotional state. In time, you will discover that letting go of your bitterness frees you to initiate the healing process and allows you to once again celebrate the possibility of the more wonderful life you deserve.
