When to Listen

Donald J TrumpI always ask other people what they think. Whether it’s in my real-life boardroom when I’m making a multi-million dollar business decision or whether it’s on the set of The Apprentice in my famous boardroom, I like to know what people think. After all, I surround myself with talented advisors for that very reason. I value their opinions and want to hear them. But that doesn’t mean I always do what they say.

Even more frequently, I get loads of unsolicited advice. Everyone has an opinion on what you should do and how you should do it. Although most people mean well, and often even offer you sound advice, they don’t necessarily know what’s best for you.

When I decided to develop properties in Manhattan years ago, my father couldn’t understand why. He had been very successful in Brooklyn and Queens and thought I should work there too. However, moving to Manhattan was a major goal of mine; it was center stage and it was where I wanted to make my name. I trusted my father and listened to what he had to say, but in the end I chose to make up my own mind. And I was obviously successful with the path I chose.

For me, a major joy of my business is being able to exercise my own vision and creativity and to express myself. Often this means going against the advice of everyone around me and taking lots of chances. Certainly I lose some, but most often I win.

I advise you to do the same. Listen to those you trust and weigh their advice. But in the end, go with your gut. It works for me.

You never intended to create your world through action. You intended to enjoy through action what you had created through thought.” - Abe

John-Derek, please don’t let the wisdom you seek, nor the changes you wish to manifest, be driven by feelings that you’re somehow flawed, weak or lacking. Because the abilities to imagine change in spite of the illusions that surround you and move towards it without even knowing “how” your kingdom will come, are the hallmarks of perfection, strength, and divinity.

As if crazy, sexy, cool wasn’t already enough. Already, John-Derek, your star has set the heavens ablaze. - The Universe

Discerning In Decision-Making

Virgo CollageDailyOM Horoscope

An analytical mood may find you using logic and discernment in your decision-making processes today. By being methodical, you feel confident that you have explored all options and addressed all possibilities. Being well prepared can give us the illusion of being in control, though we know that we are not. It is human nature to desire the security of the familiar and routine, but there are always more possibilities than we can imagine. This is good because while we create the world with our thoughts, when we leave room for the universe to move, it can bring us situations we never could have imagined. Today as you comfort yourself with logic and methodology, you can also mentally allow for even greater possibilities.

As spiritual seekers, we know that our best discernment involves not only our wealth of knowledge but the use of our intuition and hearts. Logic alone cannot account for some of the most important and moving aspects of life. As cocreators of our world with the universe, we do our part by imagining all we can and taking action to pursue our dreams. But the universe’s energy is also at work, responding to our call, organizing the details we cannot see, and balancing all things for the best possible outcome. Once you have used methodical analysis to come to a conclusion, run the same data through the filters of your inner world, and allow your heart and intuition to inform all of your decisions today.

Redefining Your Priorities

Procrastination is an almost universal human habit and one that infiltrates nearly every aspect of our lives. Modern existence is so complex, and much of what we long to do is left to wait by the side. We know what is important but tend to let the weight of worldly pressures lead us astray. To get back on track, however, we need only take a moment to consider where our thoughts will be as we take our last breath on this earth. More likely than not, at that instant, disagreements, bills, petty annoyances, and other frustrating elements of our lives will no longer seem as significant as they once did. Thoughts of loved ones and the positive impact we had on the world would no doubt occupy our remaining thoughts. Whatever we imagine ourselves musing upon during our last breath will almost always be representative of what truly matters to us.

This simple exercise introduces us to a new way of thinking. While our attention is drawn momentarily to the end of life, our contemplations serve to point out that we are masters of our own perspective and, consequently, our own existence. There is nothing preventing us from shifting our focus right now as we imagine we will in our final moments. We can choose to spend more of our time and energy on what gives our lives meaning. We can spend more time with loved ones and do more of what we enjoy. Doing so may not always prove easy, and there will inevitably be times when circumstances interfere with our resolution, yet we do not have to regard this as an indication that our priorities are not in alignment with who we really are.

Sometimes the only way we can see the beauty of life is to remind ourselves that it is finite. Gandhi said, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow.” His words are a potent reminder that living life more fully is not about pushing ourselves harder or shouldering more burdens, but about experiencing all the wonderful richness life has to offer.
