“In order to sense your inner world, you must first quiet the physical world. You must remove your conscious focus from the physical world so that you may perceive the inner world. It is not a difficult process. It has been called many things–some call it meditation — but regardless of that you call it, it is a time of quieting the physical, that you may sense the inner world“.

As you practice cultivating your heart’s intelligence, you begin to discern different aspects of this unique core of wisdom within you. These aspects, or qualities of intelligence, can be used in different circumstances as your changing needs arise. A valuable aspect to call upon is the “Soft Heart.”
Soft Heart is a place to regenerate and find renewed balance. Let’s face it, nobody feels great, or even good, all the time. How you feel can shift frequently during a day, week or month. Mood swings are commonplace as life becomes more complex, overstimulating and uncertain. Shifts in feelings and mood can be exhausting and confusing unless you have emotion regulation tools to use. When you learn to go to your Soft Heart, you’ll find an easygoing, warm place of compassion for yourself. It’s not a mushy or self-pitying place. It’s a place of ease and self-care.
A useful metaphor for Soft Heart is a warm, calming bath. Imagine yourself soaking in this bath in your heart, easing away tension and anxiety little by little. Your first step, before entering the “soak,” is to recognize that you’re feeling disturbed, overwhelmed or depressed.
Remember, it’s not the issues that cause your low-ebb feelings as much as the significance you’re giving them. Now, find your Soft Heart attitude. Soak and relax your feelings in the compassion of the heart, letting the significance dissolve a little at a time. Take your time doing this. Keeping your attention in a Soft Heart can allow more coherent heart rhythms to emerge, helping you recoup mental, emotional and physical vitality.
Respect the fact that you are human, living in a time of profound change as the planetary shift accelerates. Allow yourself to ease and rest in the comfort of your Soft Heart to recoup energy. As you move in slower motion for a while, you’ll find that your emotional energy delicately recharges and your vitality and heart buoyancy eventually will return.

Parts That Don’t Want To Heal
DailyOM
In almost every case, we know what is best for us in our lives, from the relationships we create to the food we eat. Still, somewhat mysteriously, it is often difficult to make the right choices for ourselves. We find ourselves hanging out with someone who leaves us feeling drained or choosing to eat fast food over a salad. We go through phases where we stop doing yoga or taking vitamins, even though we feel so much better when we do. Often we have no idea why we continue to make the less enlightened choice, but it is important that we inquire into ourselves to find out.
When we choose that which is not best for us, the truth can be that there is a deep seated part of us that does not want to heal. We may say it’s because we don’t have the time or the energy or the resources, but the real truth is that when we don’t take care of ourselves we are falling prey to self-sabotage. Self-sabotage happens unconsciously, which is why it’s so difficult to see that we are doing it. The important thing to realize is that this very part of us that resists our healing is the part that most needs our attention and love. Even as it appears to be working against us, if we can simply bring it into the light of our consciousness, it can become our greatest ally. It carries the information we need to move to the next level in our healing process.
When we recognize that we are not making healthy choices, we might even say out loud, “I am not taking care of myself.†Sometimes this is the jolt we need to wake up to what is actually happening. Next we can sit ourselves down in meditation, with a journal, or with a trusted friend to explore the matter more thoroughly. Just shining the light of our awareness on the source of our resistance is sometimes enough to dispel its power. At other times, further effort is required. Either way, we need not fear these parts that do not want to heal. We only need to take them under our wing and bring them with us into the light.

DailyOM Horoscope
A judgmental mood today could have you perceiving the cultural beliefs of others as inferior. This harsh opinion sends out negative energy that does not do service to you or the world. We all like to believe that we are right, but we can do so in a way that does not make others wrong. For example, our culture may have experts in technology, but theirs may have a greater understanding of nature. There is much we can learn from each other if we can remain open to different interpretations of life and spirituality. By putting ourselves in the place of others today, we open ourselves up to a greater understanding of the larger picture.
If we consider the example of life in a small town, we understand that each person makes a different contribution to the survival of the town. The blacksmith is needed for his knowledge just as much as the farmer and the musician. Each may have a different view of the world based on their knowledge of their craft: The farmer could understand life as a field in which we reap what we sow; whereas the the blacksmith sees life as something raw that must be forged and worked to be shaped. The musician may see the importance of all the different notes to make a beautiful song of life. None of them are wrong; they merely have different points of view. Today we can strive to see the beliefs of others as different but equally important contributions to the balance of the universe.

Your Last Breath
DailyOM
Procrastination is an almost universal human habit and one that infiltrates nearly every aspect of our lives. Modern existence is so complex, and much of what we long to do is left to wait by the side. We know what is important but tend to let the weight of worldly pressures lead us astray. To get back on track, however, we need only take a moment to consider where our thoughts will be as we take our last breath on this earth. More likely than not, at that instant, disagreements, bills, petty annoyances, and other frustrating elements of our lives will no longer seem as significant as they once did. Thoughts of loved ones and the positive impact we had on the world would no doubt occupy our remaining thoughts. Whatever we imagine ourselves musing upon during our last breath will almost always be representative of what truly matters to us.
This simple exercise introduces us to a new way of thinking. While our attention is drawn momentarily to the end of life, our contemplations serve to point out that we are masters of our own perspective and, consequently, our own existence. There is nothing preventing us from shifting our focus right now as we imagine we will in our final moments. We can choose to spend more of our time and energy on what gives our lives meaning. We can spend more time with loved ones and do more of what we enjoy. Doing so may not always prove easy, and there will inevitably be times when circumstances interfere with our resolution, yet we do not have to regard this as an indication that our priorities are not in alignment with who we really are.
Sometimes the only way we can see the beauty of life is to remind ourselves that it is finite. Gandhi said, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow.” His words are a potent reminder that living life more fully is not about pushing ourselves harder or shouldering more burdens, but about experiencing all the wonderful richness life has to offer.
