Inspiring Findings
Posted by JD on March 23, 2006This page is a collection of books, videos, audio…etc. that I found absolutely amazing and insightful. As you may or may not be aware, I never used to read. I loathed it. You would never find a book in my room that was not part of my homework.
About five years ago I stumbled across a book sale at Chapters. I spent a few hundred dollars just buying everything that I ever had the slightest interest in. I don’t know why I did this. I totally consider it to be Divine intervention of some sorts. I had plenty of hobbies and recreational activites to keep me busy. Many of the books were considered “New Age” [funny how that term is such an oxymoron. New Age is actually very old wisdom that is now being proven through science. lol].
That one stop at Chapters started a series of events that have helped me to evolve as a human being. Since that book sale I have been walking a very interesting path to say the least. I’ve had some amazing experiences and moments of profound insight (aka: an A-ha moment). I’ve easily read over 50 books since that time and take my word for it, that’s a lot of reading for JD! I won’t list them all here, just the major ones I resonated the most strongly with.
So anyways, check out these things. I won’t say that they will change your life, but I won’t promise they don’t either. They certainly will open you up to a new perspective on things. And I think that in itself is a great gift.
Here is the order in which I read them. I have added links through my Chapters affiliate account if you are interested in buying them. If not, I will loan them to you. Seriously!
The Power of Now - by Eckhart Tolle I listened to this on CD. It helped to occupy my time as I drove 6 days across Canada and back. Although his voice can be a bit monotone at times and his accent tiring, the profound message that he is sharing about his life experience is enough to keep your head buzzing and your soul yelling “yes! yes! yes!”. I’m serious. His other pieces of material “Stillness Speaks” and “Practicing the Power of Now” are also great and very practical. I have his latest book “A New Earth” on my bookshelf and plan to crack it after my current reading is finished.
The Power of Intention - by Wayne Dyer This too was on CD. Wayne is very down to earth and personable. I found his message was very clear and very direct. He plainly explains how we can each master life through the amazing and simple use of Intention. I recommend is weekly radio show over at Hay House Radio.
I heart Huckabees Features Lily Tomlin, Dustin Hoffman, Jude Law, and Naomi Watts (to name a few). Depending on what your mind set is when you watch this movie it may or may not speak to you. When I was watching it I was nodding my head constantly while my friend was scratching his.
What the Ble*p do we know? This is a great movie that really helped me (being a strong left brained kinda guy) tie together all the “woo-woo” new age stuff with scientific fact. I really like the format of this movie. It has a storyline progressing while at the same time interviews with scientists, mystics and psychologists are inserted to explain why things are happening in the story. It’s great and entertaining.
You Can Heal Your Life - by Louise L. Hay It may seem far fetched, but your body has an intelligence. Think that only brain cells hold memory and communicate? This amazing book clearly describes how dis-ease in our body is linked to thoughts and beliefs we have about certain things. The book contains an amazing reference chart where Louise states what issue is related to the illness/pain you are experiencing. It is so accurate. I highly recommend this one.
Ask & It Is Given: The Teachings of Abraham - by Esther & Jerry Hicks This is one of my “bible’s”. Through this book I have learned about the fundamental laws that govern the universe and how I can conciously create my experiences here. Sounds like a bold statement, no? Just read it and feel your jaw drop. I also hope to get their latest book “The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent“.
Conversations with God - by Neale Donald Walsch Although I have only started book one I am already feeling my jaw drop, my eyes bug out and my heart sing. This book is going to be another major influence on my view of the world, God and myself. Whatever your ideas are about God, you need to set them aside and read this book folks!
